Jill Valentine - Costume Progress First Steps

Jill Valentine is a character from the "Resident Evil" games. She's in the movies, too, but the outfit I'll be walking you through is from the "Resident Evil 5" game.

Why 5? My brother and I would play through this game on co-op a lot while eating kabobs so it reminds me of that. That's how it is with almost all of the outfits I choose to cosplay- the character or story or game or whatever means more to me than just, 'that character looks cool'. There is a connection to some part of my life. (However, I'm sure there might be some of those 'that just looks cool' in the future...)

I haven't played the other games (yet) but I do own them. This is how I did this outfit for Jill; others might do it differently. Let's get started!

First, let's get the simple pieces out of the way- the ones that don't need any modifying (or much).
Jill wears fingerless gloves, a hat, and an earpiece.

Almost all of these parts (including the pouches and pants) I got from 5.11 Tactical. (I'll do pouches in another entry.)

www.511tactical.com (Thanks to Jessica Hook for her quick mini tutorial and awesome video (in description for video)): https://youtu.be/HoHGIGv5JYM

She explains some about how to do the top but I'll save that for another post.

The hat is from 5.11 Tactical- "Recruit Cap", in the color 'Storm' for about $12.The color is more grey than blue but like she says, it matches the pants. And once the shirt is added the color blends well. I think they had added the '5.11' logo from when J Hook got it so I took it off. There is still an outline but I'd rather have that than '5.11' across the forehead.

The gloves are Under Armor batting gloves. "UA Clean Up IV" in black. I got them in adult size small off Amazon for around $15. https://www.amazon.com/Under-Armour-Batting-Gloves-X-Large/dp/B0068U8P7Q/ref=sr_1_83?ie=UTF8&qid=1495921249&sr=8-83&keywords=under+armour+baseball+gloves  The price seems to have gone up perhaps because they don't carry the size anymore?

Anyway, I took the Under Armor logo off and cut off the fingers. I know Jill has white on the gloves palm but I couldn't find any gloves that had that color combo. I decided I can eventually add material if I want to but it's a detail I can leave off for now.

The earpiece I found is a "Bluefit Jazz 6" working bluetooth earpiece that I got off Amazon for about $25. It fits comfortably, and can go on either left or right ear. I couldn't find the exact one when I searched again but they have others that are very similar and cheaper.

For Jill's pants, I did some looking around for a more ruffed up-looking skinny jean apocalypse type, but ultimately went with the tactical pants from 5.11 as they looked close enough and would match the other parts. Jill is tactical so the material is tough but comfortable enough to fight zombies in.
http://www.511tactical.com/wm-stryke-pant.html  This stuff can get pricey but I'd rather have the good stuff and have it last a long time. "Women's Stryke Pant" in color 'Storm'.

(I'll get to the vials and all those other little details soon...)

Lastly, for the 'simple' stuff is her gun! There are a ton of options in the game but I went with the one she has in most of the photos. (Or close to it.)

The "H&K P8" handgun is what she has, I believe, but I couldn't find that so I went with the "H&K P30". I know, it's not that different. I like to be as close to canon as possible but you gotta know where to draw the line. I got mine from (guess where) Amazon for around $35 (Medium (if they have the option) in Black). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001TWA17K/ref=twister_B00511T17Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

And here compared next to my Beretta that I use for Carter. Plus it also fits in the same holster! See here: http://warriorclassstudios.blogspot.com/2014/04/ladies-and-gentlemen-i-present-to-you.html

The boots are another piece that doesn't need any modification. You can use almost any military boot. I have the ones I use for Carter and a second pair to jump between other outfits. Jill's boots don't look exactly standard but this was a detail/part that I was totally okay with just having military boots. You can get them on Amazon as well.

I hope this information has helped. Next post will include Jill's utility belt and pouches!
